Inmate held himself hostage after hurting two fellow inmates.
Two inmates at Negros Occidental District Jail were hurt after a fellow inmate, said to be mentally-disturbed, stabbed them using a pair of scissors, Wednesday morning.
A certain Vicente, 41, of Brgy. Mainit, Cauayan Town in Negros Occidental Province reportedly stabbed two fellow inmates, a certain Neones and a certain Tulmo, who were sleeping.
The two were rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) and are now in safe conditions.
Vicente was meted in 2011 after being accused of Murder.
Initial investigations reveal that Vicente was teased by other inmates that he shall be admitted to the death row because he also killed someone. The incident reportedly caused the victim sleepless nights which resulted to noticeable changes in his ways.
He was up for admission at a mental hospital in Metro Manila for professional help after displaying signs of mental disorder. He was temporarily put in the jail’s infirmary awaiting his trip before the incident happened.
After stabbing Neones and Tulmo, Vicente ran and docked in a secluded area of the jail where he held himself hostage. He threatened the jail officers that he would stab his chest if they would not give-in to his demand. He demanded that his wife’s nice, Lorna, so that they could talk.
The jail officers tried to negotiate and pacify Vicente but he did not yield. Lorna was the one who convinced the his uncle to put the scissors down.
In the niece-uncle-conversation, Vicente grieved that his family had not visited him for almost a year now and he missed them so much. He also has worries that what his fellows have been telling him (that he is up for death row) will materialize.
The district jail management clarified that they are allowing inmates’ relatives to come to visit during visiting hours. They also assured Vicente that the case is in progress and he has nothing to worry about.
