Mohammad Jamshidi of Iran Joins Meralco as Asian Import

Iranian point guard and considered as one of Asia’s most prominent backcourt operator, Mohammad Jamshidi of Iran will be strutting his wares in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) after he was cleared to play for Meralco as their Asian import in the highly anticipated Governor’s Cup.

The 6-foo-2 3/4 playmaker from Iran barely maded the height limit set for the third conference of the PBA which features continental reinforcements from different parts of the Asian region. The maximum height of an Asian import according to PBA rules is 6-foot-3.

In an official statement released by Meralco to the media they announced: We are pleased to announce that Mohammad Jamshidi, member of the Iranian National Team for the Meralco Bolts as an Asian import in the upcoming third conference,” said Meralco in a statement.

The veteran pointguard of Iran and one of the most explosive playmaker of the national team of Iran is not new to Philippine basketball as he already played a couple of games against the Gilas Pilipinas playing for the national team of Iran in both team’s preparations for the highly anticiapted FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, with one of the qualifiers hosted by the Philippines in the next few weeks.

During the game between Gilas Pilipinas and Iran national basketball team, Mohammad Jamshidi scored eight points and seven assists in Iran’s 81-70 loss against the Philippines in a tune-up games at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
