G20 leaders were urged by Chinese Pres. Xi to avoid “empty talks” during the meeting.
United States of America (USA) President Barack Obama is believed to have received a “diplomatic sub” from China when he arrived in Beijing for the G20 Summit.
It is because the Chinese authorities failed, if not deliberately forgotten, to run stairs for him when he was about to disembark the Air Force One. The US president was forced to deplane by using another exit of the carrier when it landed to Hangzhou City.
A Chinese official was reportedly heard shouting, “This is our country! This is our airport!” when Obama stepped down the airport’s tarmac.
Aside from this, there was no red carpet rolled for Mr. Obama, unlike the usual accommodation that is given to a world leader visiting another country.
It seems that Obama received a ‘lesser special treatment’ from Chinese authorities because unlike him, red carpets were rolled for other state leaders who went to China for the G-20 summit, including: Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, Russian President Vladimir Putin, South Korean President Park Geun-hye, Brazilian President Michel Temer, and British Prime Minister Theresa May.
Meanwhile, during the G20 summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the leaders of twenty countries who attended the event to avoid “empty talks” or bringing up issues not relevant to the discussion.
