Pope Francis reiterated the decision of the late Pope John Paul ruling out the ordination of women.
VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis has ruled out the ordination of women, saying the ban will last forever.
According to Pope Francis, the “last word” on the question on women’s ordination was delivered by St. John Paul II and no changes are foreseen about it.
Pope Francis’ side on the issue was solicited while he was en route home on Tuesday from Sweden, where the Lutheran church is headed by a woman.
He commemorated the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.
The Pontiff replied: “The last word was clear and was given by St. John Paul II and this remains. This remains”.
Then Pope now Saint John Paul II ruled out female ordination in his 1994 apostolic letter “Priestly Ordination”. In the said document, He declared that “the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church’s faithful”.
