Pacman says to bury Marcos at Libingan ng mga Bayani is according to the teachings of the bible.
Senator Emmanuel Pacman Pacquiao says that he is in favor of the burial of Former Pres. Ferdinand Edralin Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
In a statement on August 15, Monday, the neophyte senator said the Filipino people should forgive the late dictator, saying this is what the bible teaches to its faithful.
The senator said that the nation cannot move-on without forgiveness.
It seems like Pacquiao has echoed the firm stand of his ally, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, that Marcos should be allotted a square in the Heroes’ Cemetery despite public clamor against it.
“Marunong tayo kahit papano gaano man kasama ang tawo magkaron tayo ng ano…ang pinakaimportante magkaroon tayo ng forgiveness. Sabi nga ng Bible, huwag tayong magalit o anuman sa nagawa, kailangan may forgiveness tayo”, Pacquiao told the reporters.
(We should learn to forgive no matter how bad the person is. As what the bible says, we should not get mad or anything because of what he did. We should have forgiveness.)
Citing the Bible, Pacquiao said: “Kung wala tayo pagapatawad sa puso natin, hindi tayo makamove on. Kailangan natin ng forgiveness para tayo may kaligtasan. So okay lang i-forgive natin iyan i-count din natin ang nagawa niya. Ang pinakimportante, he was elected as president.”
(If we don’t have forgiveness in our hearts, we cannot move on. We need to have forgiveness so we would be saved. So it’s okay to forgive him. We should also count what he did. What’s important is he was elected as president.)
Pacquiao said Marcos should be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani because he was an elected president which is one of the criteria set by law.
Despite issues related to Martial law, Pacquiao reiterated that Marcos became a president first before he declared the military rule through a proclamation which is one of his powers.
“Kinokonsidera naman natin iyon pero saan ang mas nauna, pagka-elect niya as president o martial law? o diba? mas nauna pagka-elect niya as president. Pinili sya ng tao at ang mga nagawa nya during his time, siguro iconsider natin. Wag natin kalimutan,” he said.
(We are considering that, but which came first, his election as president or Martial Law? See? He was first elected as president. He was chosen by the people and we should also consider his achievement then. Let us not forget.)
Martial Law victims cited abuses under his regime as their basis for asking the Supreme Court to stop Marcos’ burial at the Libingan.
