The PRO-18, however, did not name the cops being investigated but their named had already been sent to the PNP Headquarters.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now conducting an investigation against some 40 policemen in the Negros Island Region (NIR) who allegedly linked with the illegal drug trade in the region.
The probe came as the government intensifies its campaign against illegal drugs, where a number of police generals and officials had earlier been subjected to investigation.
Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18) Director Police Chief Supt. Renato Gumban refused to name the policemen while investigation is in progress but their names had already been sent to the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame.
Included in the subject of the investigation are two police officials with the ranks of chief inspector and senior inspector, and five non-commissioned officers.
General Gumban said that the names of the police officers subjected to the probe have consistently appeared when they validated the information with at least three sources.
