Show-cause order that was served by the house members against Senator Leila de Lima was finally served to the Senate on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.

The show-cause order was served as a connection with her efforts to stop her former driver and bodyguard, Ronnie Dayan to participate the inquiry about the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.

The order that was addressed to Senator De Lima was served by the leaders of the House of Representative.

She was asked to explain within 72 hours or three days her side why she should not be cited for contempt for advising her former aide to snub the investigation in alleged drug trade at Bilibid.

In a recent news report of the Inquirer.net, the show-cause order was reportedly brought to the Office of the Senate Secretary. It was personally handed by the House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas and House justice committee chairman Reynaldo Umali.

The order was received by Secretary Lutgardo Barbo.

Furthermore, the order was submitted to the senate due to De Lima’s actions that caused “undue interference” during the hearings.

As the Chair of the House of the Justice Committee, Umali signed the order to continue the proceedings of the investigation of illegal drugs at the New Bilibid Prison.

Umali shared to the media that the House for now, would not be issuing an arrest warrant against De Lima to “avoid [confrontation] because of interchamber courtesy.”

Senator Leila de Lima was linked to the illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison. She was accused of benefiting from the drug trade inside the national penitentiary.

During the hearing, attendance of Senator Leila de Lima and Ronnie Dayan were required, but the senator was cited for her efforts to advice Dayan not to attend the proceedings.
