On Friday, the smoke, which is the result of the forest fires in neighboring Indonesia, has engulfed in most part of the city.
Indonesian farmers illegally burn vast areas of land to plot lucrative crops of trees in order to produce palm oil, pulp and paper.
Based on the data of National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore, the pollutant standard index or PSI has been climbing fast and even reached 215 level. NEA classifies air pollution reaching the level in between 201 and 300 as very unhealthy.
The NEA has advised the residents to avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exercises to keep away from respiratory diseases such as flu, drowsy nose and watery eyes.
Schools and offices remained open and on regular business but were advised to keep watch for advisories.
