New Economic Adviser RJ Jacinto on “Business Island”
New Economic Adviser RJ Jacinto – The newly appointed presidential adviser on economic affairs and information technology RJ Jacinto has been planning to lease an island in Palawan to create a “Business Island” just like in Singapore and Hong Kong.
In an interview with Cathy Yang on ANC’s “Market Edge”, Jacinto revealed that the prospected locations is Busuanga Island, which is a tourist spot in the Visayas region known for its diving spots and white sand beaches.
According to him, the island of Busuanga is larger than Singapore, about 380 square kilometers. He added that the island to be chosen must not be too populated so that there will be lesser people to be relocated.
Jacinto said that the said “business island” will be governed by the multinationals but will still be subject to the country’s policies. Also, he highlighted that the companies need to hire Filipinos and to create industries that will benefit the Philippines.
“It’s about time the multinationals chart their own destiny, govern themselves, build their own roads and ports, but subject to them hiring Filipinos, and subject to a mix of industries that will benefit the country,” said Jacinto as quoted from the interview.
Ramon “RJ” Jacinto was a known musician and businessman in the Philippines. He has businesses in real estate, manufacturing, and retail under the RJ Group of Companies.
Jacinto graduates in economics from the Ateneo de Manila University and also took up law at the University of Sto. Tomas.
He also stated that his priority in to create new jobs through industrialization.
