Here are the things that you shouldn’t wear during a job interview
In a job interview, an aspiring employee should remember not to wear these things, according to Chief Executive Officers (CEOs).
It is but an obligation of someone who is applying for a job to look nice and neat during job interviews. What you wear might affect the decision of the boss if they will hire you or not, as they say, the “first impression lasts”.
Remember to put these to your “not to wear during job interviews” checklist.
Styles that don’t fit the company culture
Before applying, be sure that you have the knowledge about the dress codes and expectations that exist in each office environment, according Reader’s Digest.
Baron Christopher Hanson, CEO of RedBaron Consulting LLC, said: “it’s important to do your homework and try to gather as much visual evidence as to how the company culture and dress code is at work or where your role will predominantly be based.”
Uncomfortable heels
Heels can create the illusion of feeling powerful, confident, and professional for women. However, it is not advisable for you to wear uncomfortable heels that will just make you stumble, eventually. Deborah Sweeney, CEO of MyCorporation, said that “avoid stilettos or particularly spiky heels, especially if you struggle to walk around in them.” If you decide to wear heels, be sure that they should be comfortable, stylish, and easy to walk in.
Colorful wardrobe
Nate Masterson, CEO of Maple Holistics, said “wearing a bright color to an interview is completely acceptable if it correctly represents your personality.” However, he said that if you wear a bright color just one item only to avoid distracting potential employers. “Wearing only one bright item, whether it be a piece of jewelry or your blouse,” Masterson added.
Bold or flashy jewelry
“Keep it simple and tasteful. A nice watch or a wedding ring/band is enough,” CEO Deborah Sweeney said. Wearing bold and flashy during a job interview can also distract the interviewer.
Skimpy clothes
According to CEO Laura Hertz, “some wardrobe and grooming choices are red flags for any employer, though, like showing off too much skin, wardrobe malfunctions, wrinkled, stained, ripped, or ill-fitting clothing.” For CEO of FemFounder Kristin Marquet, “Tacky makeup and nails are also red flags (unless it fits into a company culture).”
Bulky bag
“The bag should be nice and in a simple color. Keep it on the small side, if possible—nothing too big that it gets in the way or demands its own spot at the table,” CEO Deborah Sweeney advised.
Distracting backgrounds during online interviews
During online job interview, you must also avoid having distracting backgrounds. Some companies are using online interviews through video calls.
