Philippines Expects The Arrival Of Next Batch Of 176 Stranded OFW’s From Saudi Arabia
176 stranded Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) from Saudi Arabia are expected to arrive in the Philippines on Tuesday Afternoon (October 18, 2016).
Labor Attache Jainal T. Rasul Jr. said that over 176 OFW’s were on their way to the Philippines after several months of being stranded in Saudi Arabia. Close to 200 Filipino workers hopes to receive their unpaid salaries before Christmas.
Saudi Arabian government shouldered the airfares of the stranded OFW’s under the Royal Order of their king, according to Consul General Imelda Panolong. The thousands of foreign workers displaced to their jobs due to the oil crisis in the Middle East will be assisted financially by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Over 264 OFW’s have been already repatriated with the help of Saudi government, according to Panolong. Philippine officials led by Rasul and Panolong with Hans Leo Cacdac, the new administrator of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) together with his staff will meet the repatriated OFW’s at the airport.
