25M students are expected to come to school today in elementary and high school. As senior high school opens in public and private school, the number of enrollees increased. there are about, 12% that are expected to attend classes in the private schools.
On the other hand, the Department of Education (DepEd) has previously approved the increase in tuition fees of more than, 12,000 elementary and high school. In college, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) has approved the request of 300 private colleges.
The opening of classes has coincide with the full implementation of the k-12 program of the government, which is expected to add another two years in senior high school. With this, the DepEd has provided aid to the families to cope with the expected additional expenses in the senior high school. The voucher program has made available for the families’ financial assistance as a remedy to the expected increase in expenditures. The DepEd also affirms that they had been receiving voluminous inquiry about the vouchers at Senior High.
This school year, 2016-2017, would be the first time for incoming grade 11. The Department of Education has been known to start the plans on the program of k-12 since 2010. Marking that year, there were about 185,000 new classrooms has been built in schools and hired about 36,000 new teachers in preparation for the senior high.
Despite these effort, the Youth for Nationalism and Democracy emphasized that there would be a lot more problems that needs to be addressed. “Alongside the problems caused by too many pupils and not enough classrooms, teaching materials and teachers, the thousands of incoming Grade 11 and 12 estimated at 1.3 million should steel themselves for more difficulties, spokesman Rosanna Villegas said.
