5 Cyclones Reported In The Same Area At The Same Time
5 CYCLES, SAME AREA, SAME TIME – For the first time in almost half a century, five cyclones were reported in the same area at the same time.
The only other time this event has happened was back in 1971 in the Atlantic. Afterward, 50 years later, the same incident occurred with five tropical cyclones:
- Hurricane Paulette
- Hurricane Sally
- Tropical Storm Teddy, Vicky
- Tropical Depression Rene.
According to an article from CNN, Tropical Storm Sally headed northwest through the Gulf of Mexico. As a result, mandatory evacuations were ordered for areas prone to heavy damage from intense rains and winds brought by a cyclone.
Furthermore, the National Hurricane Center cautioned that the public shouldn’t be thinking of specific details regarding its path, but rather the overall impact it would bring. Along with intense rains, flooding and storm surges could potentially become life-threatening for people along the Gulf Coast.
Meanwhile, tropical storm Teddy has been spotted in the central Atlantic around 1,000 miles east of Lesser Antilles. As per the article, Teddy is expected to ramp-up into a major hurricane by the end of the week.
Along with this, Tropical Storm Vicky has also been reported over the eastern Atlantic. However, the NHC said it might degenerate and dissipate over water by week’s end, if not sooner.
On the other hand, Paulette is expected to bring strong winds, storm surges, and intensely heavy rainfall along Leeward Island as it tracks into the open Atlantic. Moreover, the Greater Antilles, the Bahamas, and the United States would also be affected.
