New Zealand’s North Island Struck By 6.3 Magnitude Earthquake
On Tuesday (November 22, 2016), central New Zealand was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that cause a powerful tremor in the region.
New Zealand was shaken and felt the powerful tremor of the quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3. The earthquake centered at the upper South Island rocked the country and causes another state of shock and rear to its residents.
The magnitude 6.3 quake came little more than a week after the 7.8 magnitude quake struck the area near Christchurch in the early hours of November 14, 2016, which took the lives of two people. A tsunami alert has been raised and thousands of aftershocks have been registered after that quake.
The quake on Tuesday was centered at the North Island, 138 km (86 miles) from Palmerston North at a depth of 37 km (23 miles) and has a depth of 40 km. New Zealand was also regularly hit by an earthquake for it sits in between the Indo-Australian and Pacific tectonic plates.
