Authorities Arrested 8 Men Accused of Being Flying Voters in 2016

8 Men Alleged Flying Voters Last 2016 Elections Arrested in Manila

Police authorities in Manila have arrested eight (8) men who were accused of being “flying voters” last 2016.

Members of the Manila Police District (MPD) apprehended eight persons with arrest warrants in connection with a breach of the Omnibus Election Code in 2016. All of those arrested, according to the report, live in Binondo, Manila.

2016 Flying Voters

Mikko Tero, 26, Miraluna Abelay, 45, Gerald Evangelista, 22, Philip Regodo, 24, Crystal Rapel, 22, Stella Pinohon, 23, Villa Regodo, 22, and Jomar Rasonabo were identified by police. According to MPD spokesman Maj. Philip Ines, the eight had individual arrest warrants and were just taken up together on San Marcelino Street.

He believes the eight held a meeting in the area before being caught because they discovered they had an arrest order issued by the court in 2018. Ines went on to say that the eight had individual arrest warrants and that they were baffled as to why they were all in the same place.

“Tinitingnan natin baka nalaman nila na meron na silang warrant of arrest at nagmi-meeting sila. Pinag-mimitingan nila kung paano ang gagawin nila kaya lang naunahan sila ng mga operatiba natin na mahuli. Kasi very unusual naman nahuli ka sa isang location,” she said.

According to the source, they may not have attended the hearing when the case was filed in 2016, therefore the court issued an arrest warrant. The eight were able to post bond and gain temporary freedom, he said.

The eight were able to post bail of P36,000 each on April 27 after being produced in court and kept for one night in MPD detention, according to Ines. As the election approaches, police have issued a warning to flying voters.
