San Juan Coach Yong Garcia Apologizes Following Spitting Incident at MPBL
YONG GARCIA – San Juan Knights Basketball Team coach apologizes following the spitting incident at Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
After being seen spitting at a rival team’s player, San Juan assistant coach Yong Garcia apologized publicly. During a Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League game at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan, Lord Casajeros, a player for Valenzuela City MJAS Zenith, was the player spitted by the coach.
A replay of the incident shows Garcia spitting on Casajeros’ shoulder. “Nakakababa ng pagkatao ang ginawa niya sa ‘kin, nirerespeto ko s’ya pero bakit ganon ang ginawa n’ya,” Casajeros told ABS-CBN.
Garcia was subsequently dismissed from the game, with probable consequences for his disrespectful behavior. Following the event, he apologized publicly on Facebook on Tuesday, calling his actions “inappropriate and unethical.”
“I am writing a public apology for the recent incident that involved my unacceptable and unprofessional behavior as a basketball coach, as a representative of the city of San Juan and most especially as a husband and parent,” a part of Garcia’s statement read.
He also addressed a personal apology to Casajeros. Aside from Casajeros, Garcia also reached his apologies to the coaching staff, other players, the city of Valenzuela, and to the MPBL Management Team.
“I would like to sincerely apologize to Lordi Casajeros, the Valenzuela Team Manager, Jon Santos, the coaching staff, its players, the city of Valenzuela and to the MPBL Management Team,” he said.
“To my San Juan Family headed by Senator Jinggoy Estrada and the community, my behavior does not in anyway represent your good city and organization. The incident was regrettable and inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions …” he added.
