Alvarez Plans to Abolish SK and Barangay Elections in 2017

Alvarez plans to abolish SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) the entire youth council and barangay captains and kagawad in October 2016 elections.

On Tuesday (August 30, 2016) House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez plans to pursue the barangay and SK elections on 2017 if his proposal will succeed. The election for SK and barangay position are planned to postpone e this coming October.

“If we move the (barangay) elections to 2017 I think we have enough time to amend the Local Government Code so that by 2017—if Congress will agree on my proposal to abolish the barangay kagawads and the SK—we will be only electing the barangay captain,” said Pantaleon quoted by GMA.
