Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KoJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy surrendered to authorities on Sunday, September 8, after being located in the ACQ Bible School Building within the KoJC compound in Buhangin, Davao City. Quiboloy had reportedly been hiding there for two days before police tracked him down.
A source revealed that Quiboloy was first sighted in the Bible School Building on Friday, September 6, the 14th day of the police search inside the religious group’s sprawling 30-hectare compound. The building had previously been identified by Police Regional Office XI Director Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III as a potential hiding spot for the televangelist.
Earlier inspections of the building by police had come up empty. According to Torre, during their initial search, only female officers were permitted entry into certain areas, and several rooms were off-limits, preventing a thorough search of the premises. Despite these challenges, Quiboloy’s exact location remained a mystery until authorities intensified their efforts.
Following a Senate hearing related to the case, the Philippine National Police (PNP) declared a “gloves off” approach on Saturday, focusing their search on the Bible School Building. Sources indicated that the KoJC camp was contacted once police intensified their presence in the area.
On Sunday, Quiboloy, along with his co-accused—Jackielyn Roy, Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada, and Sylvia Cemañes—surrendered to police. The group faces serious charges of human trafficking and child abuse, with cases filed in two separate courts in Metro Manila.
PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo confirmed that negotiations for Quiboloy’s surrender began at 1:30 p.m. This followed the issuance of a 24-hour ultimatum, giving the accused a window to submit to authorities peacefully.
The high-profile case has drawn significant attention due to Quiboloy’s influence as a religious leader and televangelist, with allegations of abuse against him casting a dark shadow over the Kingdom of Jesus Christ organization. The upcoming legal proceedings are expected to further scrutinize the activities within the KoJC compound. Quiboloy and his co-accused will now face trial for the multiple charges against them.
