Binay Camp Blames Aquino Administration
Binay Camp Blames Aquino – Former Vice President Jejomar Binay’s camp recently blamed the former President Aquino for the rising controversy on the late president Marcos’ interment in the Libingan ng mga Bayani, which started debates among people again.
A statement was released by the Binay’s Spokesperson Joey Salgado on Tuesday, August 16, saying that the discussions could have been avoided if only Aquino made an action on Binay’s recommendation to place Marcos in Ilocos Norte.
“The Aquino administration missed an opportunity to lay the Marcos burial issue to rest when it did not act on former VP Binay’s recommendation made as early as 2011 to allow the burial of Marcos in Batac, Ilocos Norte,” as written in the statement.
According to the released statement, the former Vice President has been tasked by the former President on April 11 to study the issue of Marcos’ interment to the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) collected the comments of different sectors, political parties, organizations, and the general public regarding the issue and the Office received more than 3,000 responses.
“In June 2011, Vp Binay submitted to Aquino his recommendation to allow the burial of Marcos in Batac, Ilocos Norte. The former Vp noted that the burial of Marcos in Batac had the approval of the Marcos family.”
After that survey, Binay submitted his recommendation to Aquino but was not given action that’s why, according to the statement, the country is again facing another issue to be resolved.
“That’s why the nation is once again torn by debates over a contentious issue that could have been buried a long time ago.”
Binay was among the presidential candidates who favored the interment of Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
