BIR Warns Online Sellers To Finalize Registration As Deadline Looms
BIR WARNS ONLINE SELLERS – The Bureau of Internal Revenue reminded online sellers to finalize the registration of their business before September 30.
Recently, the BIR announced that they would require online sellers to register their businesses. However, this was faced with heavy criticism from the online selling community.
As such, the BIR came to a compromise and instead only requires online businesses that earn at least P250,000 per year. Meanwhile, according to an article from ABS-CBN, BIR deputy commissioner Arnel Guballa said:
May mga nakikita kami na parang mayroon pang mga gustong mag-register, na they are doing some business pero ‘di pa sila naka-register..
Ang complaint nila, lockdown, mahirap pumunta sa BIR office.
However, Guballa admitted that they have yet to know the exact number of online sellers that have not registered in their system. “We are working on different systems on how we can capture itong mga engaged sa online selling”, she explained.
Among the steps done by the BIR was communicating with popular online selling platforms such as Lazada as well as information from the public. As per the article, the BIR recorded at least 5,650 registered online businesses on August 31.
