Bong Revilla Secures Iglesia Ni Cristo Endorsement

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., who is seeking reelection in the upcoming midterm elections on May 12, has officially received the endorsement of the influential religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).

The endorsement was confirmed by Revilla himself through a public statement issued on Thursday, just four days before voters head to the polls.

“Thank you to Eduardo Manalo and the entire INC for your continued trust in me, about your decision to once again support me to continue my desire to serve the people,” Revilla said in Filipino.

He further assured INC members that their support would not be taken for granted. “I will not waste your support and trust,” he added.

While the full list of senatorial candidates endorsed by the INC has yet to be officially released, Revilla’s confirmation makes him one of the first to publicly acknowledge the backing of the religious group.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo is known for its practice of bloc voting, with members traditionally casting their ballots in line with the church leadership’s official list of endorsed candidates. This has made the INC a significant political force, especially during national elections. Analysts often regard its endorsement as a strategic advantage for candidates seeking to solidify their base and boost their chances of victory.

Revilla, a seasoned politician and actor, is banking on a mix of grassroots support and institutional endorsements as he aims to retain his Senate seat. His recent legislative efforts have focused on social services, labor rights, and anti-crime measures.

Political observers note that the INC’s endorsement could play a crucial role in closely contested Senate races, particularly in the final days of the campaign period.

The official list of senatorial candidates endorsed by the INC is expected to be released soon. In previous elections, the INC’s support has often been decisive in pushing candidates into the winner’s circle.

As the countdown to election day begins, Revilla’s camp is optimistic that the INC backing will translate into concrete votes, reinforcing his standing among voters nationwide.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded voters to verify candidate qualifications and platforms as they prepare to cast their ballots this May 12.
