Fisher folks in Boracay held a protest against the planned construction of a casino resort in the tourist destination island.
Boracay Island is one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines, however, since President Rodrigo Duterte saw that the place is already in a degraded environmental situation, it might be soon closed to all vacationers.
It can be recalled that the President of the Philippines even called the island as “cesspool” when he noticed the waste in the tourist destination.
In a previous article, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will conduct an investigation to where the collection for environmental fees from tourist went.
It was said that every tourist who visited the island must pay a certain amount of money for the maintenance of the island.
Establishments which were proven transgressing the environmental law will soon face the verdict.
On the other hand, careless disposal of waste from different business establishments in Boracay is not just the only problem in the island.
It was mentioned in a report published in ABS-CBN News that fisher folks in the said island in Visayas are facing another problem.
They are against the planned construction of a casino resort in Boracay.
Members of the Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas conducted a protest just recently in front of the office of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) which is located in Quezon City, based on the article.
In another previous article, even the family of Senator Cynthia Villar also owns a hotel in the said island.
However, she clarified that their establishment is strictly following the environmental law and if it will be closed, the Senator said that it will not directly affect them financially because they own other businesses in other parts of the country.
