Leonor Briones Accpets Sara Duterte to Be the Next DepEd Sec
Current Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) Leonor Briones accepted presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte as the new secretary of the department.
Briones immediately issued an official statement in response to presumptive president Bongbong Marcos’ statement that his running mate and Sara Duterte would be the person he would appoint as Education Secretary if their positions as president and vice president become official. According to BBM’s brief media interview, his top focus right now is deciding who would sit in his cabinet, just in case.
He stated that he has already discussed this with Duterte, who appears to have consented to manage the Education sector. Marcos is believed to be conscious of the importance of his position as secretary.
On the evening of May 11, Department of Education Sec. Briones applauds Marcos Jr’s statement that Duterte will be named Secretary of the Department. She stated that the whole DepEd family is ready to collaborate with his team to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Briones also expressed confidence that DepEd will be led by capable individuals who can ensure its long-term viability. Meanwhile, some celebrities and millennials have spoken out against Duterte’s nomination as Education Secretary.
This comes after Duterte stated that the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) will be made mandatory in schools. According to the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP), if vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte becomes secretary, the youth’s future will be hell.
