Catholic Schools Asks DepEd For Clarification Regarding Opening
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OPENING – A Catholic School group gave a clarification order to the Department Of Education (DepEd) regarding the school opening.
Recently, DepEd announced they would move the opening of the classes from August 24 to October 5, 2020, due to the onset of the coronavirus outbreak. However, some details regarding the shift were not clear to several educational institutions.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, Fr. Elmer Dizon, President of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) said he was caught off-guard by DepEd’s sudden announcement. Fr. Dizon emphasized that they had been in contact with DepEd for the past few days and were never told about plans to change the schedule.
Furthermore, they also said that their institutions have already submitted the required documents such as their learning continuity plan, health and safety protocol plan, and school calendar. As such, privates schools were now wondering why the decision was changed all of a sudden.
As per the article, Fr. Dizon clarified that the Catholic Schools came together to provide priority for the safety of the children and teachers. However, they said that clear guidelines must be provided by the education department and if the memorandum was only for public schools. Moreover, Fr. Dizon said Catholics schools were ready to begin classes via the new online learning platform.
Currently, the CEAP has around 1,500 member schools, most of which were experiencing financial problems due to shorter enrollments amid the coronavirus pandemic. Due to this, Fr. Dizon said they should be allowed to open classes.
