Pantone officially announced Wednesday that the 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue (19-4052). This color signifies the sky at dusk.
“Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era,” according to the official website of the Pantone Color Institute announcing the Color of the Year.
The 2020 color may bring almost full circle to its first Color of the Year, the Cerulean (15-4020), in which another blue hue was chosen way back 1999.
“It’s a color that anticipates what’s going to happen next,” Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, said. “What’s the future going to bring as we move into the evening hours?“
According to the Pantone Color Institute, the Classic Blue brought the sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit as well as this color may promote resilience.
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said. “Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation. A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.“
