In recent days, a video has gone viral showing cars being stopped on Commonwealth Avenue, allegedly to allow Vice President Sara Duterte to cross. In this video uploaded by Teddy Casiño given to him by a former military man, traffic enforcers can be seen temporarily halting traffic to give way to VP Sarah Duterte. A police officer in the video conveyed that VP Sarah was going to cross, hence the need for motorists to wait.
During that time, there was a brief conversation among the motorists who were caught in the situation, where they were advised to simply wait for VP Sara Duterte to cross the road. It was noticed that there was some mockery regarding the events, and there seemed to be underlying concerns about these happenings.
In the country’s history, during the time of former President Noynoy Aquino, the use of sirens or “wang-wang” on vehicles on the road was prohibited. Even the president himself would wait for traffic lights just like ordinary citizens. However, from what we are witnessing now, it appears that there have been changes in the system.
In the case of VP Sara Duterte, she recently made headlines due to the controversy surrounding her request for “confidential funds” or CIF for her department at DEPED. According to some critics, CIF is not necessary for the said agency. Additionally, past issues regarding CIF during her tenure as mayor of Davao City were also brought to light, where it reached billions of pesos during her leadership.
These events have sparked discussions among Filipinos about fair treatment for all citizens on the road and the use of government funds. Focusing on government officials and their actions in the simple aspects of the lives of Filipinos is an essential part of responsible leadership.
Sinarado ang isa sa pinaka busy na kalsada sa bansa dahil tatawid ang isang ViP? Grabe naman yan.
