Miss Universe Pageant 2017 Host- After two decades, the Philippines will again be the Miss Universe Pageant host in 2017 as announce by Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, Thursday, July 28.
In a report by Manila Bulletin, Secretary Teo announced the good news in a press conference in Makati.
“I would like to inform everybody that the Miss Universe pageant will be on January 30, 2017, in the Philippines,” said Teo as quoted in the report.
“The government is not going to spend any single centavo. It will be the private sector who would shoulder the expenses,” she added.
In earlier reports, President Rodrigo Duterte already gave his “go signal” in the prestigious event but would not want the government to fund that hosting of the Miss Universe pageant.
Tourism Undersecretary Kat de Castro said in a press briefing that the private sector will be the one to handle the expenses as the President is concerned of the expenditures.
There are reports that the needed $11 million will be shouldered by the members of the private sector such as Kazuo Okada, the Japanese billionaire and chief of Tiger Resort, as well as Henry Sy, the Philippines’ richest man.
In an article by Rappler, it said that the Tourism chief Teo has been waiting for an administrative order before announcing the news but, as they saw new release, she said to her colleagues that they need to “come out and announce.”
She added that the said administrative order will be signed before the end month.
The Philippines hosted the Miss Universe Pageant way back 1974 and on 1994. This coming 2017, current Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach will be crowning her successor.
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach posted the announcement on her official Facebook page saying, “CONFIRMED! Philippines will host again Miss Universe for the third time after Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach got the 3rd crown for the country!”
