‘Confirmed’ Two Truck Drivers of Sugar are Involved in Hijacking Incident in Negros Occidental

A total of 1000 sacks of sugar, reportedly hijacked, were recovered from two wing van trucks originating from a sugar central in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, en route to Iloilo City. According to the drivers’ account, they were stopped by five individuals whom they initially mistook for fellow drivers. Believing them to be colleagues, they allowed the individuals to board the trucks. However, it later turned out to be a holdup. Subsequently, their eyes were covered, hands tied, and the hijackers took control of the trucks, driving them to an unfamiliar location to unload the cargo.

Afterward, the hijackers left the trucks and confined the two drivers in the back with their eyes covered and their hands bound. Fortunately, they were rescued by a passing motorist who overheard their distress calls from the back of the wing van, enabling them to escape.

Many netizens have expressed doubts about the incident, suggesting that it may have been an inside job. Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer also raised suspicions that the two drivers, Jojette Arceño and Michael Orquin, might have been involved in the alleged hijacking.

Ultimately, one of the two sugar truck drivers admitted that they had hidden the 1000 sacks of sugar in a warehouse located in Barangay Busay, Bago City, Negros Occidental, where the recovered sugar was found. Source
