A Pasig court has rejected Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy’s request to participate in a live television interview in connection with his filing of a certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator in the upcoming elections.
In a three-page order dated January 13, 2025, the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 159 cited potential risks posed by Quiboloy’s public statements during the interview. The court noted that such pronouncements could influence public perception of ongoing legal proceedings against him.
The court emphasized that while Quiboloy has the right to seek public office and engage in campaign activities, this right is not absolute. “This right remains subject to regulation by the court,” the order stated.
It further clarified that Quiboloy has other means of campaigning aside from live media interviews. “Accused Quiboloy is not restricted to the live media interview as his sole means of campaigning and sharing his platform with the public,” it added.
Quiboloy filed a motion seeking the court’s permission to appear in a live interview organized by the ABS-CBN News Channel on January 14. However, the court noted that his motion lacked a formal invitation from the network, preventing it from establishing necessary safeguards.
“Thus, for failure of accused Quiboloy to substantiate his prayer in the motion, and to safeguard the fairness of the trial and maintain the confidentiality of the proceedings, the Court exercises its discretion in not allowing accused Quiboloy to participate in the supposed live interview,” the court ruled.
Quiboloy is currently facing a non-bailable qualified human trafficking charge under Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended. He is also charged under Sections 5(b) and 10(a) of Republic Act 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

The controversial religious leader has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The court’s decision underscores its focus on ensuring fairness in the trial while balancing Quiboloy’s rights as a candidate. His legal battles continue to unfold as he ventures into the political arena.
