Davao City Police Chief Relieved, Reassigned to PNP Peace Center

In a sudden leadership shake-up, Police Colonel Hansel Marantan has been relieved from his post as acting director of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO). This development was confirmed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) leadership as part of a wider reassignment of key officials within the force.

Col. Marantan, who had served as the DCPO head since his designation earlier this year, will be reassigned to Camp Crame in Quezon City. He is set to assume a new role as the acting chief of the PNP Peace Process and Development Center—an office under the Office of the Chief PNP that plays a key role in promoting peace and security programs across the country, particularly in conflict-prone areas.

Replacing Marantan as officer-in-charge of the DCPO is P/Col. Mariano Rodriguez. Before his appointment, Col. Rodriguez served as the Director for Administration at the Police Regional Office 11, which covers Davao Region. His familiarity with the region is expected to ensure a smooth transition in the city’s police leadership.

The PNP has not yet released an official statement detailing the reasons for Marantan’s reassignment. However, police officials described the move as part of a standard rotation and career development strategy for senior officers. No allegations of misconduct or performance issues were cited.

Local officials and stakeholders in Davao City are hopeful that the leadership change will not affect the strong security presence and community relations built under Marantan’s tenure. Col. Rodriguez is expected to continue key initiatives on crime prevention and public safety.

The new assignments take effect immediately, following formal turnover protocols. The PNP emphasized that both officers bring valuable experience and leadership in their respective new roles.
