Dr. Willie Ong has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the 2025 senatorial elections in the Philippines. On Friday, February 21, 2025, his wife, Dr. Liza Ong, personally submitted his withdrawal papers to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) main office in Manila.

A renowned cardiologist and social media health advocate, Dr. Ong announced his decision to withdraw on February 13, 2025, citing health concerns as the main reason. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, he stated, “I am officially withdrawing my candidacy for the 2025 elections so I can focus more on taking care of my health.”
Dr. Ong previously revealed in September 2024 that he had been diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare type of cancer affecting bones and soft tissues. Despite undergoing treatment in Singapore, he initially filed his certificate of candidacy for the Senate on October 3, 2024, with his wife representing him during the filing process.
His withdrawal highlights the importance of prioritizing personal health, even in the pursuit of public service. Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Dr. Ong affirmed, “I will continue to support good governance and the candidates who espouse the same ideals as mine. Our advocacy to help poor Filipinos continues even in my private capacity.”

Dr. Ong joins other candidates who have withdrawn from the 2025 senatorial race due to health reasons, including former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and former Narvacan Mayor Chavit Singson. As the election season progresses, COMELEC will update the official list of candidates accordingly.

Supporters and the public are encouraged to stay informed about election updates and the evolving political landscape leading up to the 2025 elections.
