Drone Footage of the Arrest of Ex-Congressman Teves Jr

Drone footage recently emerged capturing the dramatic arrest of former Negros Oriental congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. in Dili, Timor-Leste. The arrest took place on Thursday, March 21, around 4:00 PM local time while Teves was engaged in a leisurely game of golf at the Top Golf Driving Range and Bar.

Teves, who had been expelled from his congressional position, found himself in the custody of Timorese police following his arrest. Plans for his extradition to the Philippines are underway, with the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Dili collaborating with the Philippine Embassy to facilitate the process.

The former lawmaker’s arrest stems from his alleged involvement as the mastermind behind the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and five others in March 2023. Additionally, Teves was designated as a terrorist by the Anti-Terrorism Council in August 2023, leading to the issuance of a Red Notice against him.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies, including Interpol and the East Timorese Police, which culminated in Teves’ apprehension. Remulla emphasized that Teves’ arrest underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens.

Teves is also facing multiple murder charges in Negros Oriental related to a series of killings that occurred in 2019, further complicating his legal predicament.

The drone footage capturing Teves’ arrest serves as a visual testament to the global efforts to combat terrorism and uphold justice. It highlights the interconnectedness of nations in addressing transnational crimes and sending a resounding message that perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions, regardless of geographical boundaries.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Teves’ case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in maintaining security and stability in a complex and interconnected world.
