Duterte Abolished The National Food Authority (NFA) Council

President Rodrigo Duterte stated that he is abolishing the NFA Council as what he previously planned to do.

It can be recalled that the Chief Executive of the Philippines expressed his intention earlier to close down the said agency.

Based on the article published in Rappler, President Duterte mentioned his intention to abolish the said government agency during his meeting with major rice traders.

He expressed that the NFA Council which is being led by Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr, will be under the supervision of the Department of Agriculture as well as the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

It was also mentioned in the article from the social news website that this plan of the President came from his intention to just talk to one person or group about rice matters.

He said his plan of abolishing the National Food Authority Council on Thursday, April 5.

A day after that, breaking news came in saying that the President of the Philippines has decided to finally execute his initial plan for the said agency.

Based on a Twitter post of GMA News, on April 6, Friday, Duterte has completely abolished the NFA Council.

All sub-departments that are under the Council will now be submitted under the administration of the DA.

As of the writing, the update regarding what will happen to the people under the abolished agency is not yet determined.

There are no reactions yet from the NFA Council officials regarding the said issue.
