President-elect Rodrigo Duterte thanked the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who supported him and vowed to create a department for them. The recent election results showed Duterte topping the overseas absentee voting.

In the video posted by a Facebook user Editha zaragosa caduaya, the outgoing Davao City Mayor said that he will fulfill his promises for the country, noting that he will restore the peace and order.

“Sa kapatid kong Pilipino sa labas ng ating bayan at nagtatrabaho at naghihirap, maraming pong salamat sa inyo. Gagawin ko po ang pangako ko sa ating bayan,” he said.

The incoming president assured that he will serve for the country. He also opened up about the possibility that they might come home if the country becomes progressive in the next years.

He also asked an ample time so he can create a department for OFWs and a building where they can process their requirements.

In a previous interview with Duterte, he said that he plans to make an OFW department that will take care of the overseas workers.

“I propose to create one government [agency] only to take care of the OFW. Lahat ng kailangan ng permit, diyan nila kukunin sa administrasyon na ‘yan. It’s going to be a department to take care of them,” he was quoted saying.

He also proposed to make a banking system that will help OFWs in their remittances. Aside from that, he also wants to require diplomats to keep track of the workers.
