Manila, Philippines – Philstar posted that the Davao’s emergency response hotline 911 have been launched nationwide on Monday, August 01, 2016 as a part of the administration’s measure to fight crime and corruption. The telephone number 911 will be receiving for national emergency and 8888 for the citizen complaints call. It is accessible to all Filipinos and available for 24-hour hotline service.
According to the source Gamaliel Cordoba, Telecommunications Commissioner said that all calls to the hotline 911, will be redirected to the existing Patrol hotline 117 while the command center of 911 is not yet established. The following telecommunications provider promised to provide free access to the emergency hotline, PLDT, and its subsidiaries Smart and ePLDT while Globe will charge P5 per call.
The 8888 hotline will be used as complaints of the citizens concerning report of corrupt officials, underperforming government personnel, and unfinished government projects will be relayed to the proper government agencies.
Emergency hotline 911, should be used only for emergency related matters. Interior Secretary Ismael Sueno urged the public to refrain from making prank calls to the emergency hotline. He stressed that in every abstain prank calls, one life can be saved. Prank calls would shorten the response for those who would really need the assistance. Department Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo Jr. said that Filipinos need to be educated on the use of the emergency hotline to avoid any possible prank calls.
The government has already anticipated that there would be 2,730 hung up prank calls in the launching of the emergency hotline 911.
