House Energy Committee Studies Abolition Of ERC, After Exec’s Suicide
The abolition of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) will be studied by the House energy committee after the suicide of ERC director.
Due to pressures from corruption in the agency, ERC director Francisco Jose Villa Jr. allegedly committed suicide for this reason. After the executive’s death, the pronouncement of studying the abolition of the agency was made by House committee chairperson and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco.
“We will be conducting an investigation in aid of legislation to determine the systems and procedures within the commission. Further, we will be studying the abolition of the ERC thru an amendment of the EPIRA Law,” said by Velasco quoted by GMA.
ERC functions and responsibilities will be studies and determined by Velasco together with his panel members if the agency’s role should be added to the responsibility of Department of Energy. The abolition of ERC would not create a problem or vacuum in the power industry, as the lawmaker assured the public.
