Family of Ex-President Marcos Requests for Peaceful Burial at Libingan

The members of the family of the late president Ferdinand Marcos has special request for his nearing burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The family of former president Ferdinand Marcos wants his burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani to be peaceful.

This was disclosed in Wednesday by National Capital Region Police Office chief Dir. Oscar Albayalde, weeks after the Supreme Court gave go signal to the burial at the heroes cemetery.

“Wala silang ni-request… basta ang gusto lang talaga nila ay maging very simple at solemn ang libing,” Albayalde said.

Albayalde discounted the possibility that mourners will be allowed to enter the Heroes’ Cemetery during the burial.

“We would like to respect the family’s request to ensure a solemn occasion,” he said.

This was after the separate meeting of Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos and former Senator Bongbong Marcos with the high-ranking police officials earlier this week.

The meeting aims to discuss the Marcos family’s plans for the burial of the late dictator following the decision of the Supreme Court.

Based on the initial report, there will be 1,000 cops to be deployed near heroes’ cemetery in order to maintain peace and order at the site.

The date of the burial has yet to be disclosed.

According to Albayalade, both pro- and anti-Marcos groups will be allowed to hold protests in designated areas to ensure that the burial will not be disrupted.

He added that the Philippine National Police will allow the use of placards, megaphones, and sound systems, provided that protesters will not use these to harm policemen or other people.

The NCRPO chief also indicated that concerned police district directors are already briefing their personnel regarding their obligation to respect human rights, exercise maximum tolerance if ever there is a rally, and how to conceal firearms.
