Fare hike, transportation groups’ request to LTFRB on Tuesday
Fare hike is what the jeepney groups ask from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). They ask the said department to hike the minimum fare for jeepney back to P7.50 on Tuesday.
The said group stipulates in their petition the rationale behind the request. They indicated that the increase in diesel prices to more that P6.00 per liter would justify the hike in the fare. The minimum fare in a jeepney is currently at P7.0 for the regular passenger.
The group insisted that the target P.50 increase in the fare will be a great help for the operators to recover their daily operational cost given that the diesel already increased.
In a report, the transportation group indicated in the petition that, “Thus, with the increase in diesel fuel price, it is only proper to revert to the previous P7.50 minimum fare in order to be at par with present diesel fuel price and operators can recover their operational cost.”
In the petition, groups participated were the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization, Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, and the Liga ng mga Transportasyon at Operator sa Pilipinas.
It can be recalled that the LTFRB mandated to lower the minimum fare of jeepney passengers from P7.50 to P7.00. The rollback of fare was due to the lower oil price last January.
