Strong President to Resolve Tension. The tension in the disputed South China Sea has barricaded the Filipino fishermen to benefit from the rich sea as China’s coastguard began driving them away. Fierce standoff has begun years ago in the disputed Scarborough Shoal which houses abundant fish stocks.
The affected individuals behind are the Filipino fishermen who were forced to look for some odd jobs ashore. Beijing’s patrol boats were steady in the post guarding their supposed territory.
With their wants to fight back and regain what they known was theirs for a long time, these fishermen could not stand up to China’s assertiveness in the disputed waters, all they could do is hope for the government to do something in it.
While it is in the process, fishermen are in high hopes that the successor will continue to fight and eventually end their thirst to go back in what they used to do.
Biany Mula who has long been in the disputed waters said they would prefer a tougher president who would make China leave the Philippine Sea as it is not there area of property.
The hard-talking mayor Rodrigo Duterte earlier said that he may take a tougher line with Beijing, something that the fishermen looks up to.
Philippines doesn’t want a confrontation with the Beijing over the disputed waters where fishermen from Vietnam and Malaysia also benefit from. For a record though, the country has been very vocal in fighting for the territory in the due process of law.
Some of the fishermen are in high hopes that the successor will resolve the issue especially in the Scarborough Shoal adding that they will vote for that reason.
