FNRI Challenged Next President To Fight Against Malnutrition

Whoever May Win The Position, FNRI Challenged Next President To Give Proper Nutrition To Children Who Suffers Malnutrition

FNRI challenged next president to give solution for the increasing rate of malnutrition in the Philippines for children to provide them enough nutrition.

Dr. Cecilia Acuin, Chief Science Research Specialist In Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) describes the increasing rate of malnutrition in the country as “alarming, serious, and scary.”

Based on the record of 2015 Updating of the Nutritional Status of Filipino Children of FNRI, from the past 10 years, the case of malnutrition increases up to 26.2% from 0 to 2 years old who is underweight and lack of proper nutrition.

Because of this serious problem that the country is now facing, the FNRI and the Save the Children, an organization that provides children for their health is calling for help to the candidates this coming election on May 9, particularly who runs for the presidency, to give concern about the malnutrition in the Philippines whoever may win the position.

“Frustrated talaga ako na wala ako naririnig about health and nutrition. I don’t hear enough of it from our candidates, especially not the presidentiables. It’s very sad and they are going to pay for it,” said Acuin.

According to Acuin, all of this issue is not just for money concern (pointing out the conditional cash transfers) but needs an immediate action because every individual has the right to live healthily and peacefully.

“My concern about the conditional cash transfers is there’s not enough focus on nutrition. Health and nutrition are part of the conditions for the conditional cash transfers. Except for weighing the child, there are no concrete actions. What I want to hear from our candidates is that there is going to be some interventions linked to giving the cash. So, hindi lang cash, may action din,” Acuin said.
