Veteran broadcaster Henry Omaga-Diaz will conclude his anchor duties on TV Patrol this Friday night, August 30, 2024. After nearly eight years as the regular anchor of the longest-running primetime newscast on television, Omaga-Diaz is set to bid farewell to his viewers.
Omaga-Diaz began his journalism career as a news writer for DZRV Radio Veritas 846, where he worked from 1979 to 1991. In 1991, he joined ABS-CBN’s radio station DZMM as a Radyo Patrol reporter before transitioning to television as a field reporter. In 1996, he became an anchor for The Weekend News, a position he held until 2004. In 2001, he joined ABS-CBN’s flagship evening news program TV Patrol as an anchor, serving on the weeknight edition from 2001 to 2003, the weekend edition from 2004 to 2006, and again on the weeknight edition from 2020 to 2024. He also anchored the late-night newscast Bandila from 2006 to 2010.
As a respected figure in the field of journalism, Omaga-Diaz was honored by International Media Associates, Inc. as one of the Ten Outstanding Media Personalities. His skill in delivering the news and his unwavering dedication to his work have had a significant impact on the media industry.
Despite his successful career in the Philippines, Omaga-Diaz decided to leave ABS-CBN in 2024 to move to Canada. There, he plans to continue his journalism career, although he will be far from the familiar work and colleagues he has known for so many years.
Omaga-Diaz is married to Gigi Cabigon, and they have one child and three grandchildren who are also living in Canada. On his final night as an anchor of TV Patrol, he is expected to deliver his farewell remarks, which will surely leave a lasting impression on the Filipino viewers who have followed him for many years. His departure will create a significant void in television, especially for the audience who has grown accustomed to his voice and presence in the evening news.
