Huawei canceled its launch in Taiwan after Taipei imposed a temporary ban on Huawei products for listing the said island as part of China.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, December 4, Huawei said that the launch of Mate 30 Pro and GT 2 digital watch had been canceled because of “supply issues” without explaining the detail.
“We thank all users who participated in the pre-order event of the products … and express deep regret for causing you inconvenience,” Huawei said in a statement.
The cancellation of Huawei products came after Taiwan last month suspended sales of three Huawei models that listed the island as “Taiwan, China” for its timezones and contacts. Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) said on Thursday, December 5, that the temporary ban of P30, P30 Pro, and Nova 5T smartphone models was still effective and “it is not a fact and erodes our national dignity.”
The smartphone maker apparently considered how to identify Taiwan in its Mate 30 Pro, thus, this may affect the decision to cancel its launch.
Huawei has no other choice but to focus on the mainland market, knowing that there were uncertainties on its outlook abroad due to the unavailability of Google applications on its smartphones.
