A bizarre incident in Brgy. Cagay, Roxas City, has left a local lechon vendor and the community in shock after discovering that a pig prepared for roasting was mysteriously stripped of its meat overnight.
According to the vendor, their family woke up early in the morning only to find that their pig, which had been hung in their roasting area, had been completely cleaned out—leaving only the bones behind. What makes the incident even stranger is that their guard dog, usually quick to bark at intruders, did not react throughout the night.
“Our dog always makes noise whenever someone approaches, but last night, there was nothing. No one in the household heard any disturbance,” the owner shared.
The missing pig, valued at ₱12,000, was an order for a wedding feast. But instead of being cooked and served, it was found emptied of its meat. The vendor also pointed out that the pig had been securely hung at a high point, making it impossible for dogs or other animals to reach. Furthermore, no traces of struggle, footprints, or scattered meat scraps were found on the ground.
“I don’t believe in aswang, but how could this happen? And why didn’t our dog react? If an animal did this, there should have been signs, but there were none,” the owner added, still shaken by the discovery.
The eerie nature of the incident has sparked wild speculations within the community. Some residents suspect supernatural forces, such as the legendary aswang—a mythical creature in Filipino folklore known for feeding on flesh. Others believe it could have been the work of a desperate thief.
With no clear explanation for what transpired, the vendor is now seeking advice from the public on how to prevent such an occurrence in the future.
“Hopefully, this will never happen again,” they said.
Meanwhile, some residents are calling for an investigation into the matter, particularly since there were no visible signs of forced entry or disturbance in the area.
