First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos has responded to the insinuations made by Glenn Chong that she and her husband, former Senator Bongbong Marcos Jr., manipulated the election system during the 2022 elections.
It can be recalled that Chong boldly claimed that PBBM and the First Lady tampered with the election during the 2022 polls.
“Marcos Jr., you have no moral authority to lead this nation because your spouse and you manipulated the Smartmatic election system, and I was there when your spouse admitted that you were going to meet with the owner of Smartmatic,” Chong stated during the recent ‘Laban Kasama ang Bayan Prayer Rally’ at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on March 12.
In an exclusive interview with Anthony Taberna that aired on Friday, April 19, Araneta-Marcos mentioned that Chong was part of their election team, hence he was present during the vote counting.
“My first reaction was, ‘Aren’t you an officer of the court?’ And then he says we cheated, but he was there during the counting. He was part of our election team. So why would you wait one year to say that we cheated? You were there at every meeting. You know they say you are the size of your enemy,” expressed the First Lady.
“I hope he wins for, I don’t know, congressman or governor or whatever,” she added.
Araneta-Marcos’ response sheds light on the contradiction in Chong’s claims. If Chong was indeed part of their election team and present during the crucial phases of the process, his allegations of cheating seem dubious and contradictory.
This exchange underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in electoral processes. Accusations of electoral manipulation can have serious implications on the integrity of the democratic system. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals to substantiate their claims with evidence rather than making baseless accusations.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, it is essential for public figures to engage in constructive dialogue and uphold the principles of fairness and honesty to ensure the credibility of the electoral process.
