In celebration of the 127th anniversary of the heroism of Dr. Jose Rizal, LRT-2 launched a free ride initiative as part of their solidarity with the commemoration of Rizal Day. On December 30, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., passengers can avail themselves of complimentary rides on LRT-2.
The provision of free rides by LRT-2 is a significant gesture by the government to once again recognize the importance of heroes, particularly Dr. Jose Rizal, in the development of our nation. Through this initiative, LRT-2 demonstrates its appreciation for history and pays respect to those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Philippines.
Rizal Day is a special occasion to remember the sacrifices and contributions of Rizal to our nation. Born on June 19, 1861, in Calamba, Laguna, Rizal became a key leader and intellectual who contributed to the success of the independence movement. His novels “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo” awakened Filipinos and inspired them in their struggle for freedom from colonialism.
In expressing appreciation for Rizal Day, the free rides on LRT-2 open the opportunity for more people to participate in the commemoration of this day. It allows more citizens to join in paying tribute to Rizal and all the heroes who contributed to the history of the country.
As part of the celebration, passengers may witness various activities at LRT-2 stations, such as dramatizations of scenes from Rizal’s life, narratives from teachers and students about his teachings and significance, and other programs aimed at reviving the spirit of heroism.
Continuing this tradition serves as inspiration from past heroes to strengthen national unity and promote appreciation for the history and culture of the Philippines. The free rides on LRT-2 on Rizal Day are not just a journey toward their dreams but a step towards progress and paying homage to those who sacrificed their lives for this cause.
