LTO Revokes Angkas Co-Founder George Royeca’s License

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced on Monday that it had revoked the driver’s license of George Royeca, co-founder and chief operating officer of motorcycle ride-hailing company Angkas, following a traffic incident in Cainta, Rizal, on February 2.

The decision came after a viral video showed a large group of Angkas riders allegedly blocking an intersection in Cainta to allow their convoy to pass, disrupting the flow of traffic.

Speaking on TeleRadyo Serbisyo, LTO chief Vigor Mendoza explained that Royeca’s license was revoked because he admitted to organizing the motorcade that caused the obstruction.

“In the case of Angkas, na-revoke po ‘yung lisensya ni George Royeca dahil he admitted ‘yung pag-organize ng mga Angkas riders tapos nahinto ‘yung traffic sa Cainta,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza further stated that Royeca voluntarily surrendered to the LTO after the incident and accepted responsibility for the actions of the Angkas riders.

The revocation of his license means Royeca is currently prohibited from driving, but he has the option to file a reconsideration, according to the LTO official.

Royeca, who is seeking a congressional seat in the 2025 elections as the first nominee of the ANGKASANGGA party-list, has since issued a public apology.

In a video statement released on February 3, he expressed deep regret over the incident and acknowledged his accountability.

“There are no excuses for our actions. This should not have happened,” Royeca said. “This is a failure to uphold discipline, safety, and compliance that Angkas has long stood for.”

He also assured the public that he was fully cooperating with authorities in resolving the issue.

The incident has sparked discussions about road discipline and the responsibility of ride-hailing companies to ensure their riders adhere to traffic regulations.

The LTO has urged all motorists, including those in motorcycle ride-hailing services, to strictly follow traffic laws and avoid actions that could cause inconvenience or danger to the public.

As of now, Angkas has yet to issue an official statement regarding the LTO’s decision on Royeca’s license revocation.
