Based on the happenings over the past ten years, one of the main targets of attacks is major hotels that gather people from different races.
There are a lot of hotels around the globe that were attacked in the previous decade and most of which are those hotels that are popular to Westerners and tourists based on a report in ABS-CBN News.
Here is a timeline of attacks launched in major hotels in different places:
August 1, 2006
The Northgate, a hotel for foreigners in Kabul, became the target. According to the report, the incident led to the death of a policeman.
January 4, 2008
The Serena Hotel in Kabul was attacked. The incident left seven people dead.
September 20, 2008
The attack that used a truck to Marriott Hotel in Islamabad left 60 people dead including the Czech Ambassador.
July 17, 2009
The attack that targeted the Marriott Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Jakarta left nine people dead.
January 25, 2010
Three hotels in Baghdad became the targets. The incident left 70 people wounded and 36 people dead.
March 20, 2014
The Serena Hotel in Kabul became the target. It cost the lives of nine people including an AFP journalist and his family.
January 26, 2015
The attack claimed by the Islamic State group took the life of 38 tourists – 30 of which were Britons. The incident happened in the northeast of Tunisia.
January 27, 2015
The Corinthia Hotel in Libya became the target by the Islamic State group and nine people were left dead. Among them are five foreigners.
November 20, 2015
20 people were left lifeless by the incident at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital of Mali. It was claimed by Al-Murabitoun. Among the victims are 14 foreigners.
January 15, 2016
A hotel and restaurant in Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso were attacked leaving 30 people dead. Most of them are Westerners. According to the report, troops from France backed up the armed men of Burkina Faso during the incident.
March 13, 2016
19 people were left lifeless in the unfortunate incident that happened at the resort of Grand-Bassam in the Ivory Coast.
2015 – 2017
More than 100 people were left lifeless by the attacks. Among the unfortunate incidents happened in Dayah Hotel wherein 28 people died.
January 20, 2018
At least six people died in the attack at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul. Taliban was held responsible for the incident that took the life of a foreigner.
