MALACAÑANG TO OFFER NEW POST TO TORRE

Malacañang on Wednesday confirmed that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has offered a new government post to former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III, just a day after his sudden relief from the police organization.

General Torre

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro told reporters that while the Palace cannot yet reveal the details of Torre’s new assignment, the offer has already been extended.

“Hindi pa po natin maisisiwalat ang detalye patungkol dito pero confirmed po na may inaalok na posisyon,” Castro said. She emphasized that the President considers Torre’s potential new role as one of significant weight and responsibility.

“Mabigat ang posisyon, mabigat ang trabaho na mukhang siya lang makakapagtrabaho. ‘Yun kasi ang plano ng Pangulo,” she added, hinting that the post is tailored to Torre’s expertise and experience in public service.

Castro explained that President Marcos hopes Torre will accept the appointment, emphasizing that this is a role the President specifically wants him to undertake. “Ito ang talagang gustong ipagawa sa kanya,” she stressed.

The Palace declined to provide further details about the position, stating that the official announcement would come directly from the President once Torre gives his formal acceptance.

Torre’s relief as PNP chief took effect on August 26, 2025, amid still-undisclosed issues within the police organization. His removal, which came as a surprise to many, has fueled speculation about internal disagreements and the direction of leadership within the PNP.

Despite the controversy surrounding his relief, Torre remains recognized for his long service in law enforcement and his leadership style, which some officials describe as both firm and reform-oriented. The offer of a new government role is seen by political observers as an indication that the administration still values Torre’s capabilities, even if he could no longer continue as PNP chief.

For now, Malacañang is keeping details under wraps, but the assurance that Torre will continue to serve in government signals the administration’s confidence in him. All eyes are now on whether the former PNP chief will accept the President’s offer and what kind of responsibilities the new position will entail.

An official announcement from President Marcos is expected once Torre finalizes his decision.
