The Office of the Ombudsman has suspended Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro, Vice Mayor Marion Andres, and several city councilors for six months without pay. The suspension stems from multiple criminal and administrative complaints filed against them regarding alleged irregularities in procurement transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Mayor Teodoro expressed his belief that the timing of the suspension is politically motivated. He claimed that this move was part of a plan to derail his campaign for the 2025 midterm elections. Teodoro is running for congressman in Marikina’s first district.
“The timing is very questionable, just days before the start of the official campaign period. It’s hard not to see this as a calculated political attack meant to damage my name and candidacy and shake the trust we’ve built with our constituents,” Teodoro said.
Despite the suspension, Teodoro remains confident and reiterated that he is still a candidate for the upcoming elections. He assured his supporters that the trust they have built over the years will not be easily shaken by these developments.
The complaints against Teodoro and other city officials are related to alleged irregularities in the city’s procurement processes during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. While details of the allegations have yet to be fully disclosed, the charges reportedly include violations of procurement laws and possible misuse of public funds.
Teodoro maintained that all transactions during the pandemic were conducted transparently and by government regulations. He vowed to challenge the Ombudsman’s decision and seek legal remedies to address the suspension.
Meanwhile, political analysts noted that the suspension of Teodoro and other key city officials could impact the upcoming elections in Marikina. Teodoro’s supporters expressed concern that the suspension might be used to undermine his campaign and weaken his chances of securing a congressional seat.
The official campaign period for the 2025 midterm elections is set to begin soon, and Teodoro’s suspension is expected to become a central issue in his campaign. As of now, Teodoro remains resolute in continuing his fight, emphasizing that he will not allow this challenge to affect his commitment to serving the people of Marikina.
