Authorities confirmed that the driver involved in the tragic crash at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 is now facing multiple charges following inquest proceedings. According to NAIA Police Station 1, the driver of the black SUV has been charged with reckless imprudence resulting in two counts of homicide, multiple physical injuries, and property damage, as reported by ABS-CBN News.

The crash occurred when the SUV slammed into the passenger entrance of Terminal 1, killing two people—a male adult and a five-year-old girl. Four others sustained injuries and received immediate medical treatment.
Initial investigations by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) revealed that the driver had just dropped off a passenger at the departure area when a sedan unexpectedly crossed his path. This caused him to panic and mistakenly press the accelerator instead of the brake.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) clarified that no evidence suggested the incident was intentional. CCTV footage reviewed by authorities showed the SUV dropping off a passenger moments before the crash. The DOTr, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), and law enforcement agencies are jointly conducting a full and impartial investigation. The driver has also been subjected to a drug test as part of the procedure.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the LTO has suspended the driver’s license for 90 days.
In an interview with The Philippine STAR, the aunt of the young girl who died said the family is struggling to cope. “The father is still in shock. He can’t speak properly, refuses to eat, and keeps crying,” she shared. She also revealed that the child’s mother underwent surgery due to internal bleeding and has not yet been told of her daughter’s death because of her fragile condition.
San Miguel Corporation President and NNIC head Ramon S. Ang expressed his condolences and pledged financial aid. “This is a very tragic incident. Our priority now is to make sure the victims and their families receive the support and care they need,” Ang said, assuring that he would cover all medical expenses for the injured.
The DOTr has urged the public to refrain from posting images or videos of the incident online out of respect for the grieving families.
